history Leonard Moorhead Thomas was a composer, art collector, banker and diplomat (served as the secretary of the American Legation in Madrid, 1908; and the secretary of the embassy in Rome).

A graduate of Yale University Thomas was a member of the Newport Country Club and Clambake Club of Newport, the Travelers Club of Pars, the Racquet of Philadelphia, the Racquet, National Golf and Garden City Golf clubs and the Sons of the Revolution.

Thomas was married twice: his first wife was Blanche Oelrichs, aka Michael Strange, 1890-1950, their marriage ended in divorce(m. 1910–d.1919); and his second wife was the former Mrs. Austin Townsend Sacket, nee Marie Good, 1895–1959 (m. 1921–). Blanche and Leonard had two sons: Leonard M. Thomas, Jr., and Robin M. Thomas.
