history Isabel Weld Perkins Anderson was a Boston heiress, philanthropist and author who collected fine art and historical artifacts with her diplomat husband, Larz Anderson, III (1866–1937).

The Anderson’s collection comprised of paintings, sculptures, tapestries, murals, metalwork, ivory and stone carvings, textiles (Japan, China, India, and Nepal) and other objects acquired during their travels abroad. In addition to owning two sets of 17th c. Flemish tapestries from the Diana and Arbor series they owned work by, among others, Joshua Reynolds, Peter Lely, Cecilia Beaux, José Villegas, and H. Siddons Mowbray.

The Andersons had many homes including Anderson House in Washington D. C., Perkins Manor in Contoocook, NH, and Weld Estate in Brookline, MA.

Mrs. Anderson bequeathed the Weld estate to the Town of Brookline. The bequest included the mansion, land, and a collection of thirty-two vehicles purchased by the Andersons. It is now known as Anderson Park and is the location of the Larz Anderson Auto Museum which includes fourteen carriages from their original collection.

After the death of Larz in 1938, Isabel donated Anderson House along with their art collection to the Society of the Cincinnati. Perkins Manor, which was inherited by Mrs. Anderson and was known as Anderson Manor during her lifetime, is again known as Perkins Manor and houses eight apartments.

Isabel left their Bonsai collection to the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University along with funds to build a shade house to house the collection.
