history William Nelson Cromwell was an art collector, philanthropist, corporate lawyer, and a founder of the New York law firm Sullivan & Cromwell.

Cromwell made made significant bequests to Columbia University, the British War Relief Society Inc., New York County Lawyers Association, ASsociation of the Bar of the City of New York Law Institute, St. Bartholomew's Church, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, American Foundation for the Blind, and the National Gallery of Art, D.C. At the time of his death his Estate was reportedly set at $17,167, 552.
