Clara Louise Brandt was born in Muscatine, IA on October 8, 1850. She attended a private school in Muscatine, and for several years taught in rural schools. She also spent some time in New York with her brother, William Ziegler. For many years, Clara and her sister, Emma, devoted their time between the Brandt farm home in Muscatine County and their residence at 308 East Fourteenth Street in Davenport. Over the years, they collected a variety American paintings and drawings. Brandt willed this collection to the City of Davenport, which now resides at the Figge Art Museum. |
