history Percy Hadyn Sloan was an artist, art teacher, supervisor, art collector, and son of the American painter Junius R. Sloan (1827–1900).

Sloan gave his collection of approximately 380 paintings by American artists to Valparaiso University in 1950. The bulk of the gift were paintings by his father, however, the collection included work by, among others, Frederic Edwin Church (1826–1900), Karl Anderson (1874–1956), Robert Reid (1862–1929), Elizabeth Nourse (1859–1938), and Frank Dudley (1868–1957). Sloan’s included an endowment of $150,000 to care for the collection.
