Jack R. Dick was an entrepreneur, cattle breeder (Black Watch Farms, Wappingers Falls, NY), and art collector. Dick collected 18th and 19th Century English sporting paintings. The collection included work by, among others, Henry Aiken Sr. (1785–1851), James Seymour, John F. Herring Sr. (1795–1865), George Stubbs (1724–1806), Ben Marshall (1768–1835), Dick’s collection was sold in London at Sotheby & Co. in four parts: first, on Oct. 31, 1973; second, on June 26, 1974; third, on April 23, 1975; and fourth, on Apr. 28, 1976. Before Dick amassed his collection of English paintings he had collected coins, jade, silver, coral, ivory, china, porcelain, and first editions, rare book bindings and antique English furniture. Dick and his wife, Lynda T. Dick, owned the Connecticut estate known as Dunnellen Hall. |
