history Frederic C. Hamilton was an art collector, philanthropist, and oilman (co-founder, Hamilton Brothers Oil Co., 1962; co-founder and chairman of Tejas Gas Corp, sold to Shell Oil Co. in 1998). Hamilton served on the board of trustees the Denver Art Museum (1977-2014, chair 1994-2013), and gifted twenty-two paintings from his collection to the museum.

Hamilton’s collection included landscape paintings by 19th century French Impressionists and American artists. The collection included work by, among others, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissarro, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, Eugène Boudin, Alfred Sisley, William Merritt Chase, and Childe Hassam.
