history Viennese born William (Wilhelm) Henry Schab was a New York City art dealer and bookseller specializing in rare books, illuminated manuscripts, Old master prints, and drawings. Schab opened the William H. Schab Gallery in 1939 after fleeing Vienna, Austria, and emigrating to the United States.

Schab gave over one-hundred-and-twenty five works of art to the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York City.

Schab was married to Ada Loewy in Vienna in 1918; they had two children: Frances (1920-2018) and Frederick (1924-2020).
