Captain Viner Van Zandt served in the Revolutionary War and was an auctioneer. According to a New York City directory compiled for 1786, he auctioned off several works of art by French, Italian, Flemish and Dutch paintings, including work by Van Dyck, Rubens, Teniers, Boucher, Bruegel, and others, at Correās Tavern.
