George William Staempfli was an artist, art curator (Houston Art Museum), art dealer (Knoedler & Co; Staempfli Gallery), and served on the Fine Arts Advisory Committee for the Brussels World’s Fair, 1958. He retired and closed his gallery in 1988, then in 1992, moved to Annapolis, MD, where he died in 1999. Staempfli was married and divorced three times with all marriages ending in divorce: Emily Fordyce Ewing, married in 1946; Emily McFadden Harrison, married in 1955; and Barbara Dierich, married 1968. |
