history Edward Fowles was a New York City art dealer who was connected with the Duveen Brothers.

Fowles directed the Paris branch of Duveen Brothers from 1917- 1938, along with two other partners; he purchased the firm from Lord Duveen in 1939. By 1958 he had bought out his partners. Fowles served as vice president of the gallery from 1938- 1945, when he became president. In 1964, he sold the firm to the Norton Simon Foundation.

Fowles married Jean Stewart, the former Mrs. Robert Langton Douglas, in 1963; he had one daughter. Mrs. Marguerite Alice Kadjar (1912-2002).
