Jane Eliza Lathrop Stanford was a collector and philanthropist. She and her husband, Leland Stanford, founded the Leland Stanford Junior University in memory of their son, Leland Stanford, Jr. (1868-1884), who during a European tour contracted typhoid fever and died in Florence, Italy. Jane Stanford died on February 28, 1905 in Honolulu, Hawaii. |
