Klaus G Perls was an art dealer, collector and owner of Perls Galleries in New York his younger, Frank Perls, ran a gallery on the West, Frank Perls Gallery. When Perls came to American, in 1935, he dealt in works by Maurice Utrillo, Maurice de Vlaminck and Raoul Dufy that his mother sent from Paris (she was an art dealer in Berlin and Paris). When she was forced to flee France, he began dealing in contemporary American artists, including Darrel Austin, and in Mexican and South American art. After the war, Klas dealt in French art from the School of Paris. Klaus and his wife, the former Amelia Blumenthal (Dolly), amassed a collection of African royal art from Benin and modern works by Picasso, Modigliani, Braque, Léger, Soutine and Pascin (work was donated to the Metropolitan Art Museum, 1991 and 1996).
