history |
Marion Koogler McNay was an art collector, philanthropist, and founder of the Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum. The McNay Art Museum continues to build on an already substantial collection of 19th- and 20th-century European and American paintings and sculpture by significant artists ranging from Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Auguste Rodin, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso to Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, John Sloan, and Marsden Hartley. Marion Koogler McNay Art Institute changed its name in 1983 to Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum. Marion Koogler McNay was married five times: Don Denton McNay (1917–1918) Charles N. Phillips (1921–1926) Dr. Donald Atkinson (1926-1936) Victor Higgins (1937–1940) and Adelbert E. Quest (1940–1941) After her divorce from Atkinson and subsequent divorces, she returned to her first husband’s name, which the museum bears today. |
