Art collector and businessman. Dannheisser collected art with his wife Elaine, he was refugee from Nazi Germany and owner of an engraving company. The Dannheisser collection included, among other things, works by Picasso, Leger, Rouault, Dubuffet, Rothko, Rauschenberg, Agnes Martin, Robert Gober, Koons Gonzalez-Torres, Bruce Nauman, Sigmar Polke, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Thomas Struth and Joseph Beuys. In 1982, the couple established the Dannheisser Foundation, which donates works to museums and maintains a 9,000-square-foot space on Duane Street in lower Manhattan for art displays and on-site performances. |
