history Bernard "Barney" Alec Ebsworth was an art collector, business executive, and travel tycoon.

The Ebsworth collection included twentieth century American Modernism, American Contemporary, and Old Masters. He owned paintings, sculptures and works on paper by, among others, Charles Burchfield, Alexander Calder, Charles Demuth, Willem de Kooning, Arthur Dove, Arshile Gorky, Morris Graves, Marsden Hartley, David Hockney, Edward Hopper, William Glackens, O. Louis Guglielmi, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Gaston Lachaise, Franz Kline, John Marin, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O'Keeffe, Claes Oldenburg, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Charles Sheeler, David Smith, Joseph Stella, Wayne Thiebaud, and Andy Warhol, in addition to less familiar names such as George Ault, Peter Blume, J. Francis Criss, John Storrs, and Bob Thompson.

Ebsworth served on many art related Boards including: Vice-President of the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA; Trustee of the Honolulu Museum of Art, Honolulu, HI; International Council Member, MoMA, New York; former Trustee and Chairman of the Acquisition Committee of the St. Louis Art Museum; Trustee Council and former Co-Chairman of Collectors' Committee, National Gallery of Art, Washington; former Commissioner of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C. The Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park, St. Louis, MO, Founding Trustee and Member of the Collection Committee at Laumeier Sculpture Park.

Ebsworth donated artwork to the National Gallery of Art and Seattle Art Museum. He was married four times: first to Martine Ebsworth (nee de Visme), they had a daughter, Christiane; his second wife was Patricia “Trish” Ebsworth (nee Kloepfer, 1948–2012); his third wife was the conservationist Pamela Ebsworth (nee Larimer, 2004 ended in divorce); and his fourth wife was Rebecca Ebsworth (nee Layman).
