Xavier Fourcade was a French American art dealer. Son of a banker, Jean Fourcade, he moved to the United States in 1956, and by 1966, had joined the firm of Knoedler & Company (East 57th Street and East 70th Street locations). In 1970, Fourcade opened his own gallery, Xavier Fourcade Gallery. He represented the estates of artists Barnett Newman, Arshile Gorky, Tony Smith (shared with the Paula Cooper Gallery), Eva Hesse, and H. C. Westermann. His estate was auction at Sotheby's, New York, on November 4, 1987; November 5, 1987; November 12, 1987; February 17, 1988; February 18, 1988; February 19, 1988; February 25, 1988; May 3, 1988; May 14, 1988; May 15, 1988; February 12, 1989; February 15, 1989; February 15, 1991; and May 1, 1991. Fourcade had four siblings: a sister Yvonne Fourcade Panizza, and three brothers, Vincent Gabriel Fourcade (interior designer of Denning & Fourcade, 1934 –1992), Bertrand Foucade, and Dominique Fourcade. |
