Ima Hogg was an art collector, patron, philanthropist who not only supported the arts but was an advocate of historical restoration and mental health. Hogg’s collecting habits varied and while the Bayou Bend collection she donated to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) included American furniture and decorative arts produced between 1640 and 1880, she had a collection of European art and donated a significant collection and Native American art to the MFAH including pottery, jewelry and paintings. Artists represented in Hogg’s European collection included, among others, Chagall, Modigliani, Picasso, Klee, Cézanne, and Sargent. |
