John Seward Johnson was an art collector, business man, yachtsmen, and pharmaceutical heir. He was the son of Robert Wood Johnson, founder of Johnson & Johnson. Mr. Johnson moved to Fort Pierce in 1976 to direct the Harbor Branch Foundation, a nonprofit organization he had founded in 1970 to advance marine science and underwater and oceanographic research. Johnson was married three times, his first marriage was to Ruth Dill Johnson Crockett of New Brunswick, second was to Esther Underwood Johnson of Oldwick, N.J (married 32 yrs), and lastly Barbara Piasecka Johnson, they were married for 12 yrs. before J Seward passed away. He and his wife, Barbara, collected both Seventeen-century Dutch and Flemish paintings, old masters and impressionists paintings and drawings. After Johnson's death his wife, Barbara, converted their home in Princeton into a golf course and club; many of the paintings and furnishings from his collection remain at the private club, Jasna Polana. |
