BuyerRogier Meuwels tot Casper Honckelboer
Buyer FamilyMeuwels, Rogier
Buyer NotesOn 6 November 1625, some goods belonging to Rogier Meuwels were sold after his death (INVNO 738). He was living at the time of his death on the Oude Heeregracht near the Heijsteegh. The day after, on November 7, Hans, Claes, and Oste (?) Meuwels, the heirs of Rogier Meuwels, named Warnaer Albertsz. and Pieter Segersz., silversmith, to handle the succession (GAA, NA 351B, film 6406). At the time the present lot was bought, Rogier Meuwels was living in the house of Casper (or Jasper) Onckelboers (or Honckelboer), a cloth finisher and cloth merchant. Jasper Onckelboers, from Antwerp, 26, assisted by his father Melchior Honckelboers, was betrothed to Sara de Vett, also from Antwerp, on 8 October 1605 (DTB 411/596). He died before 25 January 1635 when Abraham Anthonisz. brought to the Orphan Chamber the accounts for his three children (WK 5073/1193). Dirck Honckelboer de oude was the brother of Melchior Honckelboer cited above. On various members of the Honckelboer family who traded in Russia, including Melchior Honckelboer, see Wijnroks, Handel tussen Rusland en de Nederlanden 1560-1640, p.268). Warnaer Albertsz., cited above, is probably the individual of that name who married the widow of Jacob Calaber (of R 30263) in 1633 (NA 991, fol. 111, Not. J. Bosch). Melchior Onckelboer was also a cloth merchant. On 25 June 1638, Abraham Anthonisz., the famous Remonstrant, turned over to the Orphan Chamber the accounts for the assets inherited by the children of Jasper Honckelboers (WK 5073/1193). Hans Meuwels, the son of Rogier Meuwels, was a silk spinner (zydereder). His death inventory was taken on 2 April 1637 (NA 714, Not. P. Carels).
