Buyer FamilyCromhout, Hendrick
Buyer NotesThe buyer, Hendrick Bartelsz. Cromhout, was betrothed to Aagje Govers Wuytiers on 30 September 1604 (DTB 411/319). He was the eldest son of Barthold Adriaensz. Cromhout, koopman op den Oudezijds Achterburgwal, 1550-1624. Aagje Govers was the sister of Dirck Govertsz. Wuytiers of R 7663. Barthold Adriaensz. dealt in lumber, indigo, cotton. Aefken Goverts Wittjeers, wife of Hendrick Kromhout, was buried on 13 March 1640 in the W.K. (DTB 1046/9). She left assets valued at 435,000 f. (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 269). In, 1608, H. Cromhout, who is probably identical with the buyer, was said to be the heir of Jan van Baerle (I), who had died circa 1603. He signed a petition to the burgomasters of Amsterdam requesting the revocation of a prohibition agains the use of cashiers in effecting money transactions (Van Dillen, Wisselbanken, R.G.P. 59(1925), p. 16). Hendrick Cromhout paid a tax of 600 f. in 1631, at which time he was living on the dwarstraet van 't Spinhuis (Kohier, fol. 244vo, p. 56). Hendrick Cromhout bought flower bulbs at the sale of the late Pieter Pietersz. tuynman on 25 September 1626 (WK 5073/952). The failure of Hendrick Cromhout to accede to any position in the Vroedschap may be due to his conversion to Roman Catholicism. On Hendrick Cromhout, see also Maandblad Amstelodamum 49(1962), p. 215.
