Buyer Notes | The buyer is likely to be Hillebrand Schellinger (1580-1632), schepen in 1616, director of the V.O.C. from 1614 until his death, captain of the civil militia in 1616. He married Grietge Willemsdr. Pauw (1582-1667) on 4 December 1605 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 300). In 1606, he was living in de Pauw in the Warmoessraet, when he bought lots for 1 f. 16 st. in the Haarlem lottery (GAA, 148/29 F 1062). In 1612, Hillebrand and his father Cornelis Schellinger I (distinct from his nephew Cornelis Gerritsz. Schellinger of R 20235 who was only 17 years old in 1612) invested 18,000 f. in the second subscription for V.O.C. shares (Van Dillen, Het oudste aandeelhoudersregister, p. 259. Hillebrand Schellinger was a weesmeester for several years beginning in 1630 (Wagenaar, Amsterdam, vol. 2, p. 383). He was an ardent Counter-Remonstrant (ibid., vol. 1, p. 492), In 1631 outschepen Hillebrant Schellinger paid a tax of 350 f. (Kohier, fol. 4vo., p. 2.) | |
