| Buyer Notes | The buyer, Jan Gerritsz. Kieft, was the son of Gerrit Willemsz. Kieft, 1571-1622, merchant on the O.Z. Voorburgwal, and of Machteld Jansdr. Huydecooper (who married Gerrit Kieft in 1595) (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 187). He was also the brother of Ryngkert Gerritsz. Kieft whose goods were sold after his death in 1623 (INVNO 652, R 551 of Montias1). Jan Gerritsz. was 26 and living on the Fluwele Burchwal when he was betrothed to Jannetien Elberts van Loens, 18, on 10 June 1623. He was assisted by his mother Machteld Jans (DTB 428/90). He was one of the 21 lyeffhebbers van de Nederduytsche Poesy who signed a contract to support the poet Jan Jansz. Starter in 1625 (Oud Holland 3(1885), p.54), Jan Gerritsz. Kieft must have died about 1628, since his widow Jannetje Elbers had been a widow for five years when, on 11 August 1633, she remarried with the wine dealer and painter Gysbert van Schendel (who was assisted by his uncle Gerrit Gerritsz. Parijs, the father of Jan Gerritsz. Parijs of R 20584) (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p. 2000.) She was a widow of Jan Gerritsz. Kieft on the Zeedijck when she was insinuated along with many other wine dealers on 30 November 1630 (NA 910, Not. Pieter Eyloff). On 29 May 1646, Gerrit Gerritsz. Parys transferred to his daughter Jannetje, among others, two paintings by Gysbert van Schendel (Bredius, loc. cit.) | |
