BuyerJasper Walendael in de Bantamstraet
Buyer FamilyWalendael (Wallendael), Jasper (Casper)
Buyer NotesOn 25 November 1620, Jaspar Wallendael, from Schiedam, 31 years old, no living parents, living on the Coningsgracht, was betrothed to Gertruijtje Croon, from Riga, 23, assisted by her mother Geertruy Croon (DTB 425/145). On 9 March 1625, the couple had their son Caspar baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Immetje Croon and Goosen Cornelisz. (DTB 6/109). Goosen Cornelisz. may be the town crier (stadtroeper) of that name at whose request the inventory of Barent Mylman was taken on 27 April 1639 (NA 821, film 1151, Not. Verbeecq). On 27 September 1626, Jasper Wallendael and Gertruijd Croon had their daughter Marija baptized in the same church in the presence of Elijsabeth Hudde and of Jan Jacobsz. Veen (DTB 6/153). On 10 September 1629, the couple had their son Nicolaes baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Joris Aertsz. Banck (DTB 6/250). Joris Aertsz. Banck was the father of Adriaen Banck, who bought a painting of Susanna from Rembrandt in 1647 and whose portrait was painted also by Rembrandt. Joris Aertsz. was buried on 18 November 1640 (Schiedam GA, Begraaf Register). Jasper Walendael paid a tax of 60 f. in 1631, at which time he was living on the Keysersgracht (Kohier, p. 67, fol. 295v). On 9 August 1634, Jasper van Wallendael, 45, and Claes Pietersz. van Hoorn, 28, both merchants, declared at the request of Jan Jansz. van Cley, first Wallendael that he had sold Cley last January 68 barrels of geers at the price of 17 f. 10 st. per barrel, which Cley had paid for (NA 694B, film 4980, Not. J. Warnaerts). On 27 March 1637, Jasper van Wallendael gave Barber Egberts assurance that he would support a child (which he had apparently procreated with Barber) until his majority or his marriage. Barber Egberts declared that she would no longer make demands on Jouffr. van Wallendael (NA 643, film 4954, fol. 154). Jasper Wallendael seems to have been a flax merchant. On 6 October 1637, he declared that he had sold flax to Jochum Jochumsz., flax dealer, in a deposition requested by Jacob Vlack (NA 695B, film 4982). Johan Casparsz. Wallendael, the son of Jasper Wallendael I, married Elisabeth de Marez, widow of Johan de Bas, son of Lodewijck de Bas and Magdalena van Brugge (of INVNO 303) (Jaarboek C.B.G. 44(1990) p.181). Another son, Nicolaes Casparszoon, married Margaretha Vlieck, the daughter of Rutger Vlieck and Margareta Spiegels (Oud Holland 57(1939), p.32).
