Buyer FamilyLambertsz., Gerrit (van Cuylenburch)
Buyer NotesThe buyer, Gerrit Lambertsz., was a sculptor. In 1619, he was cited as the principael knecht of the architect Hendrick de Keyser when Theodorus van Roodenburg visited De Keyser's atelier. He was noted in Copenhagen in 1623. In a W.K. sale of that took place in September 1626 (probably soon after his arrival from Copenhagen), he was said to be living on the Breestraet in Amsterdam (R 23481). He settled in Kampen in 1627 as beeldhouwer en beeldsnijder. He soon afterwards assumed the function of city sculptor (stadtsteenhouwer) in neighboring Zwolle. Lambert Gerritsz. died on 22 March 1657 (J. Verbeek, Johannes van Cuylenburch en zijn vader Gerrit Lambertsz Oud Holland 70(1955), pp. 76-7). A sculpture connected with the dollhuys (with four figures of apparently demented people) attributed to Gerrit Lambertsz. is conserved in the Rijksmuseum. On 17 June 1637, Trijntje Pieters, sick in bed, wife of Gerrit Lambertsz., mason, named Gerrit Lambertsz. as her universal heir (NA 770, fol. 667, Not. Verhey). His son Jan Gerritsz. van Cuylenborgh was a painter who imitated Ter Borch's genre paintings. On 11 December 1655, Joannes Cuijlenborch, the son of Gerrit Lambers Cuijlenborch, was betrothed to Trientien Michiels in the Groote Kerck of Zwolle (Verbeek, op.cit. p.67). Various children were born of this marriage in 1656, 1657, 1659, and 1661 (Verbeek, loc.cit.)
