Buyer Notes | No painting of this subject by either Jan or Jacob Pynas has survived. This and the previous lot are likely to be pendants, because the themes are related, they were approximately the same price, they were the only attributed paintings in the inventory, and they were bought by the same person. It is noteworthy that two paintings representing the same subjects (David en Urias, 23 f. and 1 schilderijtie van Bersaba haer waaschende, 26 f.) were bought by Cornelis Symonsz. Pool, the brother of Elbert Symonsz., at a sale of October 30, 1624. This was the sale of the goods left after the death of Pieter Claessen Kod, lijnslager, which took place op't water bij de Kapelsteech, thus, virtually at the same address as Elbert Symonsz.'s. I believe that these were the same paintings as had been sold in 1620, but I do not know how they got from Jeltge Claes de peet (of R 25469) to Pieter Claessen Kod. One other painting that the sales seems to have had in common is een schilderij van Abigael. |
