Buyer NotesThe buyer was a painter, born in Brussels, in 1577, the son of Gerrit Jansz. de Buck, tapissier (upholsterer). He was active in Amsterdam from 1597-1620. One of his landscapes was sold at this sale (R 28304). On 23 July 1605, Gerraert de Buck, from Brussels, painter, living on the Houtmarckt in de Wijdesteech, assisted by his father Geraert de Buck, was betrothed to Elisabeth Luce, from Antwerp, 22, having lived 18 years on the O.Z. Achterburchwal, assisted by her father Lucas Luce (I) and her mother Elisabeth de Roy (DTB 411/553). By this marriage, De Bucq became the brother-in-law of the painter and art dealer Lucas Luce II (of R 20173). Gerrit (Jansz.) de Buck I died in Brussels before 3 Sepember 1609, when his post-mortem inventory, which contained a few paintings, was taken (Not. Jan Gysbertsz., film 135). In 1612, Gerrit de Bucq II moved to and settled in Alckmaar, where he joined the St. Luke's guild. In 1619, he had some paintings auctioned by the Orphan Chamber in Amsterdam in de twee hammetjes op den Dam (INVNO 573 of R 473) to settle a debt he owed to his sister Claertgen. He remarried with Haesgen Abrahams, widow of Nanning Simonsz. on 23 August 1620 (betrothal) (Oud Holland 33(1915), p.64). He was buried on 3 January 1630 (Briels, Vlaamse schilders, 1997, p. 307).
