BuyerSalomon de la Tombe by Jonas
Buyer FamilyTombe, Salomon de la
Buyer NotesThe buyer was apparently a painter-apprentice working with or for Jonas van Maerle. He was the son of Leon de la Tombe and of Janneken van Keuklen and the brother of Philips, Esaias, Daniel and Anna de la Tombe (Briels, Vlaamse schilders, 1997, p. 389). Leon de la Tombe, 51 years old in 1612, was a sworn broker (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P.78(1933), p.17). On 17 August 1613, Salomon de la Tombe, from Aken, painter, 23 years old, having lived 15 years on the Merhoutgracht, assisted by his parents Leon de la Tombe and Jenne de Keuklin, was betrothed to Lysbeth de Keyser from Utrecht, 28, assisted by her father Cornelis de Keyser Dircxs. (DTB 417/201). Lysbeth de Keyser was a sister of Hendrick de Keyser, the uncle of the painter and sculptor Thomas de Keyser of R 24468. Uncle Salomon, as Thomas de Keyser called him in his correspondence with his son-in-law Nicholas Stone, is known to have sold a couple of pots to Stone in or around 1637 (Oud Holland 34(1916), p. 62._) On 18 September 1614, Jannetje, daughter of Salomon de la Tombe and Lysbet de Keyser was baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Barbara de Keyser (van Wilderen, the wife of Hendrick de Keyser) (Oud Holland 22(1904), p. 69). On 3 August 1616, Salomon de la Tombe and Elisabeth de Keyser had their daughter Elisabett baptized in the W.K. in the presence of Heijndrick de Keyser, Philippe de la Tombe (the brother of Salomon), and Jenne de la Tombe (DTB 130/31). On 12 November 1617, the same parents had their daughter Barbe baptized in the same church in the presence of Adriaen Claess, Samuel de la Tombe and Barbe de Kayser (DTB 130/56). Samuel de la Tombe was associated in a company of packers (warehouse men), along with Jacques Bourse II (of R 20074), Heduard Hoeck, and Samuel Jacobsen in 1628 and again in 1634 (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 78(1933), p. 658 and 144(1974), p. 49). On 13 December 1635, Daniel de la Tombe (II) named his brothers Esaias and Salomon de la Tombe as executors of his testament (NA 412B, fol. 431, Not. Jacob and Nicolas Jacobsz.) Esaias de la Tombe, broker, was born about 1597 (NA 694B, Not. J. Warnaerts). He was married to Catarina Beguyn, who appeared before the Orphan Chamber, assisted by the auction master Abraham Croonenburgh, on behalf of her two children with the late Esaijas de la Tombe on 3 October 1639. The children stood to inherit 8,000 f. from their father (WK 5073/789). On 12 June 1636, Daniel de la Tombe (II), from Amsterdam, with no living parents, assisted by his uncles Salomon and Esaijas de la Tombe, was betrothed to Catharina van den Hoye, assisted by her father the engraver Francois van den Hoye (Oud Holland, 4(1886), p. 142.) Daniel de la Tombe (II), who was said to be 11 on 14 July 1626, was the son of the late Daniel de la Tombe (I), sexton of the Frans Kerck and of Sijtgen Willems, who had died shortly before that date (WK 5073/789). On 13 July 1636, Salomon de la Tombe and Elisabeth Cornelis de Keyser passed their testament, naming their two daughters Jannetge and Antoinette their universal heirs (NA 414A, fol. 55, Not. Jacob and Nicolaes Jacobsz.) On 18 December 1643, Salomon de la Tombe was living in the Staelstraet when he assisted his daughter Teuntie (Antoinette ?), 24, upon her betrothal to Cornelis Jansz. Leeuw, from Edam, 30, musicmaster (Oud Holland, ibid.). In 1631, an individual named Salomon de la Touche (possibly a transcription error for Salomon de la Tombe) paid a tax of 5 f. at which time he lived on the Groene Burchwal (Kohier, fol. 223 vo., p. 51). It was apparently he who was buried on 1 September 1660 in the F.K. (having no minor children) and for whom 10 f. 13 st. were paid. If so, he was then 80 years old (DTB 1130/198). Salomon de la Tombe seems to have been the cousin of Pieter de la Tombe of R 20085.
