Buyersolvit [crossed out: Cornelis Aertsz. in de Nieuwe Straet]
Buyer FamilyAertsz., Cornelis (van Beyeren)
Buyer NotesThe buyer was probably the lumber merchant who was the father of Leendert Cornelisz. van Beyeren of R 34462. On 28 December 1635, Cornelis Aertsz. van Beyeren, widower of Maritje Lenerts Brugmans, on one side, and Trijntje Arents, widow of Jan Pynas, bride-to-be, on the other, signed a marriage contract. The contract stipulated that, if Cornelis Aertsz. were to die first, the sum of 2,500 f., plus all her clothing and jewelry, plus three paintings, one by Claes Coppen (Nicolaes Coop II, the son of Nicolaes Coop I of R 30624), one by Jan Pynas, and one by Lastman, plus all her family portraits should revert to the bride's relatives (by testament), with the exception of any jewels he, Cornelis Aertsz. might have given her. If she were to die first, the three paintings cited above would still revert to the bride's relatives (NA 477, film 6478, fol. 490, Not. Palm Matthijs). The very next day, which was December 29, Cornelis Aertsz. van Beyeren, widower of Marritge Lenerts Brugmans, was betrothed to Trijntje Artus, from Antwerp, widow of Jan Pynas, living in the Coningsgracht (DTB 444/69). On 9 January 1636, Cornelis Aertsz. van Beyeren, lumber dealer, appeared before the Orphan Chamber with his four children, Aert, 19, Lenaert (the Rembrandt pupil), 16, Neeltgen, 11, and Bafie, 8, whose mother was Mayken Lenaert Burchmans (Brugmans), and declared that his children were entitled to 12000 f. plus some real estate for their mother's inheritance (WK 5073/789). He was buried in the N.K. on 23 April 1638. Already three days earlier (he must have just died), his heirs were mentioned in an act (NA 696A, film 4982). On 7 May 1638, his death inventory was drawn up by Notary Laurens Lamberti (INVNO 275).
