| Buyer Notes | Anthony Anselmo (Ancelmo) was the father of Beatrix Anselmo who married Simon Jacobsz. van der Does (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 326). The portrait in this lot is very probably identical with that of Antonio Anselmo (1536-1611) and his wife Johanna Hooftman (1555-1579) and two children by Marten de Vos, painted in 1577, presently in the Brussels Koninklijk Museum voor Schoone Kunsten. Antonio Anselmo was a major trader with Russia (Wijnroks, Handel tussen Rusland en de Nederlanden 1560-1640, p.167 and pp.183-5). | |
