Buyer Notes | Bredius cites this picture in his article on the artist in Thieme Becker. No others are known, nor any life data about the artist. However, it is known that a merchant by the name of Abraham Dragon, born in Antwerp, was first noted in Amsterdam in 1613 and was in business with Isaack Massa in 1616 (R 32152). He died before 1630 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 299 and Prosopographic Data Base). He was married to Catharina Heldewier, the sister of Magdalen Heldewier, the wife of the art dealer Gonsalvo (or Consalvo) Romiti (Jaarboek Amstelodamum 69(1977), p. 36). Abraham Dragon was related to Walraven Dragon, whose grand daughter married Abraham Soolmans of R 27420. The painter may have been a grandson of the merchant Abraham Dragon. |
