Buyer NotesThis is the painting referred to in the autobiography of Constantijn Huygens (1629-1631), which he had seen in the house of Nicolaes Sohier (S.A. Worp, Constantijn Huygens en de schilders van zijn tijd, Oud Holland, 9(1891), p. 121.) Huygens wrote that the painting was so terrifying that it was generally covered with a cloth.
Present LocationThis was perhaps an atelier copy of the painting of this subject now in the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum.
