BuyerDoctor Jan Fonteyn
Buyer FamilyFonteyn (Fonteijn), Jan (Johan), doctor
Buyer NotesDr. Johan Fonteyn (1575-1628) was the son of the apothecary Thonis Jansz. and the grandson of Dr. Claes Plemp (1525/30-1597) (see the genealogy in Dudok van Heel in Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, Amsterdam, 1998, p. 58). He was a member of the Rederijkerskamer de Egelantier (In Liefde Bloyende) in 1616 (Oud Holland 22(1904), p. 41). He replaced Dr. Sebastiaen Egbertsz. as praelector of the Surgeons' Guild in 1621 (Oud Holland 2(1884), p. 141). In 1629, he made a deposition whence it appears that he also had an apothecary's shop (Van Dillen, Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven 78(1933). pp. 489 and 677.) His sons Dr. Nicolaes Fonteyn (of R 19445) and Dr. Barent Jansz. Fonteijn paid taxes of 35 f. and 50 f. respectively (Kohier, fol. 29, p. 8, and fol. 55vo, p. 14). Dr. Jan Fonteyn was portrayed in De anatomische les van Dr. Johan Fonteyn of 1625, which has been preserved, in damaged condition, in Amsterdam's Historisch Museum (A. Blankert, Amsterdams Historisch Museum, 1975/1979, p. 103).
