Buyer | Jacob Verdoes borge Claes Elias |
Buyer Family | Verdoes, Jacob | Buyer Notes | The buyer may be, as the authors of Dossier Rembrandt (Museum Het Rembrandthuis, Exh. Cat. 1987-1988) suggest, the future painter Jacob van der Does, who was born in 1623 and was only 15 years old in 1638 (Oud Holland 3(1885), p. 68.) The surety for the buyer was the painter Claes Elias (Pickenoy) of R 8367, who was perhaps his master at the time. Jacob van der Does married Margaretha Boortens (The Hague 1630-The Hague 1661), the sister of Maria Boortens, who was first married to the Notary Salomon van Nieulandt, the son of the painter Adriaen van Nieulandt (Notes of Marten Jan Bok on the Van Campen family). The Boortens sisters were the daughters of Dirck Dircksz. Boortens, attorney in The Hague, and of Maria Loots, the sister of Mr. Reyer Loots, the son of Jan Reyersz. Loots of INVNO 1142. The death inventory of attorney Dirck Boortens was taken in Haarlem in 1647 (cited in Biesboer, Nederlandish Inventories, 2001, p. 528). Reyer Loots, via his wife Aefje van Campen, in turn, was related to the painter and architect Jacob van Campen (ibid.) The family was Roman Catholic. |
