Commentary	The furniture and other movable goods of Hans Muylkens were found in the house of Pieter Janssen moutmaecker, who also supervised the inventory. It is not clear whether this Hans Muylkens is the same individual whose estate was divided by an agreement signed on 10 May 1605 (see the NOTES to R 30126 of Montias2). Given the length of time that had elapsed since the death of this Hans Muylkens (18 years), it is conceivable that the inventory belonged to his son or other relative of the same name. Yet the only other individual by the name of Hans Muylkens (or Muyltjes) was the son of Adriaen Muylkens, who was himself the son of Hans Muylkens whose estate was divided in 1605. This second Hans Muylkens died shortly before 8 April 1641 and is unlikely to have been the owner of the goods in the present inventory (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p. 1517). Some of the items in this inventory were apparently identified by Hans Muylkens's son Adriaen, who was a painter, and by Willem Smith, who was married to Anna Muijlgens, the daughter of Hans Muylkens I (see the NOTES to R 20504 of Montias2). Adriaen Muylkens or Muyltges was a landscape painter, born circa 1600, active in Amsterdam until about 1630 and later in Denmark and Haarlem (member of the guild in 1640). The family relation between Adriaen Muylkens and Willem Smith is confirmed by a declaration date 6 October 1639, in which Willem Smit, merchant in Amsterdam claimed that his swager Adriaen Muyltgens had borrowed 1,500 f. from him in 1630 (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p. 1516). Another daughter of Hans Muylkens I, named Geertie Muylkens, was married to Barent Noorman of R 30045 of Montias2. It is presumed (but not certain) that Maria Muylkens, the wife of Dirck Claesz. Schepel of R 30126 of Montias2, was also a daughter of Hans Muylkens. A number of paintings in the inventory were said to be unfinished or unframed. These may have been painted by Adriaen Muylkens. On 31 July 1644, some one claimed that Adriaen Muyltgiens, living in Haarlem, had sold him three paintings as Principalen, which in fact were copies (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p. 1517).
