Commentary | On 30 June 1640, Isaack Greuninger, from Copenhagen. ivory turner (ijvoordrayer), living in the Hartestraet, 24, no living parents, was betrothed to Margriet Carsten Dancxdr., 22, assisted by her father Carsten Dancx, living in the Vogeldwarsstraet (DTB 675/267). On his departure to Denmark, the ivory carver Isaack Greuninger left the goods in this inventory in the care of his brother-in-law Jan Carstens Danx. Carsten Hendricx Dancx was married to Reymerich Jans. Jan Carstensz. Dancx, the son of Carsten Dancx and the brother of Margriet Carsten Dancx, was a process server (deurwaerder) for the Court of Holland. Jan Carstensz., who was married to Susanna Meurs (perhaps related to the calligrapher and school teacher Hendrick Meurs of R 25394 of Montias2), was in turn the father of the painter Fracois Dancx. Susanna Meurs died before 30 June 1656. On 7 June 1657, the art dealer Hendrick Uylenburg and the painter Guilliam de Ville (perhaps of R 33159 of Montias2) were summoned by the court of justice in Amsterdam in a process pitting Francois Dancx against Daniel Fransz., surgeon in Amsterdam. They assessed a portrait of the wife of Daniel Fransz. painted by Dancx 3 Fl. pounds (about 18 f.), although they thought it might be worth a good deal more. Daniel Fransz. may be the individual of that name to whom Rembrandt owed a debt (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p.965). |
