Commentary | It is very probable that Anthony and Martin Lundens were brothers (or possibly cousins) of the painter Gerrit Lundens, one of whose paintings was recorded in the present inventory. Bartholomeus Breenbergh, born about 1601, was active in Rome from 1619 to 1629 and in Amsterdam from 1633 to 1657. For a deposition that he made in July 1633, see the NOTES to R 27808 of Montias2. In early December 1636 (exact date unreadable), two housemaids of Caspar Pietersz., free wine cellar holder, and Claes [...], servant of the requirant (Breenbergh) testified at the request of Bartholomeus Breenbergh, painter, about an incident involving a man in gray without a mantle that had occurred on November 27 last (NA 949, film 1172, Not. Baddel). On 27 August 1633, Bartholomeus Breenbergh, from Deventer, 33, assisted by his brother Jacob Breenbergh, living on the Oostermarck, no living parents, was betrothed to Rebecca Schellingwou, assisted by her sister Trijntje Schellingwou (DTB 673/36). It is not clear from the text of this inventory whether the Lundens brothers or Breenbergh were (or was) insolvent at this time. |
