Commentary | Pieter de Koocker de jonge (II) was the son of Pieter de Koocker I and the brother of Joannes de Koocker of INVNO 506, with whom he apparently lived on the Herengracht. On 8 July 1629, Petrus de Cocker and Catharina Schimmelpenninck had their son Cornelis baptized in the RK Boom (an RC schuilkerk). The godmother was Adriana (Alberts), the mother's mother (DTB 316/7). On 7 January 1633, Petrus de Koker and Catharina Frederics Schimmelpenninck had their son Petrus baptized in the same church. The godfather was Johannes de Koker (Pieter's brother) (DTB 316/21). According to the INTRO to this inventory, Pieter de Koocker owed money to his father-in-law Frederick Jacobsz. Schimmelpenninck, to whom he pledged the paintings in the present inventory as a guarantee for repayment of the loan. He, or possibly Pieter de Koocker I, paid a tax of 125 f. in 1631 at which time he lived on the Herengracht (Kohier fol. 182, p.42). Pieter de Koocker I or II bought a grave in the O.K. in 1632 (Maandblad Amstelodamum 37(1950)). Schimmelpenninck was a resident of Alkmaar at least since 1608 when his maid testified about the testament of Elisabeth van Alckemade, the widow of Willem Bicker (Jaarboek Amstelodamum 70(1978), pp.69-72). In 1615, he was a regent of the city's orphanage. He was buried in Alkmaar on 21 January 1650, his widow (unnamed, but presumably Maria or Maritge Alberts), on 17 October 1652 (De Nederlandsche Leeuw 25(1907), col. 27). The daughter of Frederick Jacobsz. Schimmelpenninck, named Elisabeth Schimmelpenninck, was the second wife of Dr. Pieter Bas. the brother of Claes Pietersz. Bas of INVNO 150 and of R 23906 of Montias2. On 29 September 1636, the honorable Pieter de Koocker, merchant, transferred in full property to Dirck Jansz. Beijnom, inkeeper in Utrecht, a debt of 250 f. for spices delivered that Dirck Cornelisz. Rycklandt, living in Bommel, owed him (NA 315, fol. 210). | |
