Introduction | Inventaris mitsgaders coopmanschappen in den boedel van Dirck Steenoven. Postscript: Aldus geinventariseert den 17en january 1666.
Commentary | On 3 July 1651, Dirck Steenover, accompanied by his mother Annetje Claes and his brother Jan Steenoven, his brother-in-law Frederick Stam (cited in the NOTES to R 24437), and Govert Lems, his acquaintance, signed a pre-nuptial contract with Margariet Verwers, assisted by her uncle Ghysbert Vlamingh van Oudshoorn (NA 988, act 63, Not. J. Bosch). Gijsbert de Vlaming van Oudtshoorn, the son of Volckert de Vlaming and of Maritge Braems (daughter of Pieter Braems, wine dealer of R 31430 of Montias2), was buried on 4 September 1652. He was captain of an infantry company of 200 men in 1651. His sister Maria de Vlaming van Oudtshoorn married Hendrick Claesz. Verwer (the father of Claes Hendricksz. Verwer of R 7667 of Montias2) on 17 July 1633. Margariet Verwers was presumably the daughter of Hendrick Claesz. Gijsbert's brother Arnold de Vlaming van Oudshoorn, married Maria Ruttens (of INVNO 492) in Batavia in 1641. She was the daughter of Hans Ruttens and Clara Pieters Elekaert of INVNO 121 (Elias, Vroedschap van Amsterdam, p. 229). The Bordeaux wine in the cellar seems to part of the coopmanschappen in the inventory. It suggests that Steenoven was a wine merchant.
