Commentary	Samuel Dorville, who died in 1654, was the second of this name. Samuel Dorville I was a merchant first noted in Amsterdam in 1622 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 319). In 1631, the widow of Samuel Dor Viels (I) was taxed 100 f., at which time she lived on the Turfmarckt, as did the owner of this inventory (Kohier, fol. 238vo, p. 54). On 26 April 1638, Jean de Bary (cited in the NOTES to R 36233), in charge of the affairs of the widow of Samuel Dorville (I)and his heirs, caused notary Oly to go to the house where Pierre Henriques, Portuguese merchant in his life time, had died, to protest an unpaid letter of exchange that Henriques had apparently issued (NA 1497). On 26 January 1639, Michiel de Spinoza was said to be curator of the estate of Pedro Henriques (NA 1498, Not. Oly). On 25 March 1648, Samuel Dorville (II), from Franckendael, 31 years old, assisted by his uncle and guardian Jacob Pergens, living on the Kleuveniersgracht, was betrothed to Anna Watson, 18, assisted by her mother Susanna Allengeensdr. (?), living on the Nieuwe Doelstraet (DTB 465/414). William Watson, the father of Anna Watson, was an English merchant (see R 29979 of Montias2). Jacob Pergens, lord of Vosbergen, born in Cologne, was married to Leonora Bartolotti, the daughter of the rich merchant Willem van den Heuvel, alias Bertolotti (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 386). Pergens was the curator of the estate of Marten van Heuvel of INVNO 412. A portrait of Pergens was recorded in the post-mortem inventory of the painter Jan Lievens. It may have represented Jacob Pergens (Bredius, Künstler-inventare, p. 188). On 9 November 1650, Samuel Dorville and Anna Watson had their son Guillaume baptized in the Wa.K. in the presence of Willem Watteson and Walburges Pergens (DTB 131/225). Anna Watson, wife of Samuel Dorville (II), was buried on 4 July 1652 (DTB 1046/119vo). Samuel Dorville II died on 15 September 1654.
