CommentaryDirck de Milde was a wine dealer. He was married to Maria Cornelis Kan, who was apparently the sister of Trijntje Cornelis Kan, the mother of Reyer Claesz. Molensteen. Thus Dirck de Milde was the uncle by marriage of Reyer Molensteen. Cornelis van Poelenburg, the witness to this transaction, may be the famous painter of that name. Dirck de Milde was betrothed to Maria Cornelis Kan, widow of Otto Phoormont (Schoormont ?), on 14 December 1644. He was said to be from The Hague, widower of Neltie Adriaens, and Warandemeester of His Highness the Prince of Orange, living in Honselreedijck. She was living in the Pylsteech and was assisted by her mother Cornelia Pieters Clapmus (DTB 678/22). On 8 May 1641, Reyer Claesz. Meulensteen, living on the Rockin, hoedecramer (retail hat merchant), from Amsterdam, assisted by Trijntje Cornelis Kan, his mother, was betrothed to Cornelia Pieters Clapmuts, from Amsterdam, living on the Groenmarckt, assisted by Rycklant Jacobs, her mother (DTB 676/51). The father of Reyer Claesz. was almost certainly Claes Reyersz. Molesteen I who, on 4 September 1631, acted as the guardian of his aunt the honorable Elbrich Jans, living in the Bagijnhof, when she declared having been repaid in full of a loan she had made to Jan Gerritsz, mason (NA 991, fol. 36, Not. Jan Bosch). His mother Trijntje Cornelis Kan was presumably the sister of Maria Cornelis Kan, the wife of Dirck de Milde. Cornelia Pieters Clapmuts was the sister of Catharina Pieters Clapmuts who was betrothed to Notary Cornelis Touw of INVNO 394 on 2 April 1642. On 27 December 1646, Reyer Molesteen and Cornelia Clapmuts had their son baptized in a R.C. church in the presence of Petrus Molesteen (DTB 316/33). Petrus Molesteen may have been a R.C. priest or a student in theology. On 10 July 1659, Reijer Molesteen and Cornelia Pieters Clapmuts had their daughter Petronile baptized in the Roman Catholic church Boom in the presence of Jan van der Mij (of R 32487 ?) and of Gertruij Molesteen (DTB 316/66). It is curious that the Molensteen family reverted to Roman Catholicism even though their ancestor Claes Reyersz. (living in the house in den Molensteen), was a prominent member of the Reformed community (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 47). The son of Reyer Claesz. Meulensteen, named Claes Reyersz. Molensteen (II), became city surgeon in 1683 (ibid.) On the Clapmuts family, see the TEXT of R 1050 and of R 23 of Montias1.
