CommentaryGoosen van Dien (or Dieden) was the son of Jochum van Dien (of R 23405 of Montias2) and of Aeltge Goosens. He was 3 years old on 23 March 1624 when his inheritance was brought to the Orphan Chamber. Magdalena de Vogel, the daughter of Jan de Vogel and Catharina Daniels (van Beuningen), was 12 years old when her inheritance was brought to the Orphan Chamber on 1 July 1638. At that time, her sister Catharina was 4 years old and her brother Daniel was 3 years old (both are cited in the INTRO). On these ages and that of the other children of Jan de Vogel, see the NOTES to R 26637 of Montias2. Catharina de Vogel married Joost Pluijmer on 23 September 1655, when she was said to be 22 (DTB 475/11) Goosen van Dien was the son of Catalijna Pieters. the daughter of the painter Pieter Isaacksz. (see the TEXT of R 34). Jan de Vogel was a buyer at auction (R 26637 of Montias2). On 27 December 1647, Goosen van Dieden, from Amsterdam, merchant, 22 years old, assisted by his father Jochem van Dieden, living on the Coninxgracht, was betrothed to Magdalena de Vogel, 22, assisted by her mother Catharina de Vogel, living in the Breestraet (DTB 465/285). Note that Goosen van Dien made himself four years younger than he was when he was betrothed. On 8 November 1648, Goos van Diemen and Magdelana de Vogel had their son Johannes baptized in the ZK in the presence of Pieter Jochumsz. van Diemen (presumably Goosen's brother) (DTB 93/254). None of the works of art bought at auction by either Jochem van Dien or Jan de Vogel turned up in the present inventory.
