Commentary | The inventory seems to be undated. The date above is inferred from dated inventories preceding and following this inventory. On 25 March 1623, Pieter Michielsz., from Alkmaar, 26 years old, having lived 8 years on the Keysersgracht, was betrothed to Diewer Cornelis, 24, assisted by her father Cornelis Pietersz., living on the Roosegracht (DTB 441/304). On 12 November 1633, Pieter Michielsz., from Alkmaar, lumber dealer (houtkoper). widower of Diewertje Cornelis, living on the Princegracht, was betrothed to Jannetje Jans, widow of Augustijn Sweerts, 7 years a widow, living on the Rapenburgh (DTB 441/304). In the INTRO, he is said to be stadtimmerman (city carpenter), which implies that he carried out contracts for the city. Pieter Michielsz. of this inventory is probably identical with the lumber dealer Pieter Michielsz. van Alkmaar. Pieter Michielsz., according to his post-mortem inventory, owned a house in the Openhartsteegje, in front of the Goudse Veer, a lot on the Elandsgracht, whereupon there now stands a house on the corner of the Hasestraat, evaluated at f 4,800, and two lumber yards on the Rapenburg, valued at 511 f. He owned obligations with a total face value of f 9,800. In 1631, Pieter Michielsz., living in the Koestraet, paid a tax of 20 f. (Kohier, fol. 178, p. 41) (the identification of the tax payer with the late Pieter Michielsz. of the present inventory is tentative only) |
