CommentaryJean Fauconnier was the son of Philippe Fauconnier and of Susanne Gabry. He was born in Antwerp in 1581. Maria Romborgh, born in Wezel about 1593, was the daughter of Pierre Romborgh (I), who assisted her when she married Jan Faulconnier. On 21 March 1613, Jean Faulconnier, from Antwerp, living in the Bredestraet(?), 32 years old, no living parents, assisted by his swager Pieter Coningh, was betrothed to Maria Romborgh, from Wesel, assisted by her father Pieter Romborgh (of R 29548 of Montias2) (DTB 417/58). Faulconnier was a merchant who was said to have had difficulties meeting his debt obligations in 1617 (Gelderblom, Zuid-Nederlandse kooplieden, p. 231). On 2 February 1618, Jehan Faulconnier and Marije Romborch had their daughter Susanne baptized in the Wals Kerck with Pierre Gabri, living in Utrecht, Jaspar Romborgh, living in Middelburgh, in place of Agatha de Rijcke, wife of Hans Romborch, living here, as witnesses (DTB 130/60). Jaspar Romborch was presumably the brother of Maria Romborch, of Hans Romborch (of R 27468) and of Pieter Romborch II (of R 29548). In 1624, Jan Foulconnier bought a house in an executive sale on the Keisersgracht (no.117), which had been built for Nicolaes Delbeek. The house was later acquired by Abraham Velters of R 8164 of Montias2 (E. van Houten, Grachten, p. 57). Jean Fauconnier was the cousin of both Jean Leschevin (of R 29988 of Montias2) and of Anthony Nijs (of R 7616) (I. van Eeghen in Jaarboek Amstelodamum 60(1968), p.85). Fauconnier died before 4 May 1635 when his widow Maria Romburghs, assisted by her brother Hans Romburgh (of R 27468 of Montias2), drew up a procuration to collect 6,000 f. in Melvingert (NA 991, fol. 50vo, Not. J. Bosch). After the death of her husband, Maria Romburgh became a regentesse of the Waalse Weeshuis in 1646, 1647, 1655, and 1656 (Nederlandsche Leeuw 86(1969), col. 154).
