Another taxatie by Louwies Luce and Hendrick Uijlenburgh took place on 17 May 1645, which covered most of the paintings already assessed on 21 March 1641. (Louis Luce, of R 20393 of Montias2, was not known previously as an art dealer. He may have been confused with his brother Lucas Luce of R 20173). Both sets of prices are cited in Montias2. Since the inventory of 17 May 1645 seemed more complete and contained attributions (as the inventory of 21 March 1641 did not), it was used as the main source for INVNO 256. There is also considerable overlap with INVNO 255, the inventory of Anthony van der Heeden II, son of Anthony van der Heeden I.
CommentaryThe value of the entire inventory of movable goods and of the art works is taken from the document of 15 February 1645. The value of the art works in the inventory of 27 May 1645 was 484 gulden. Anthony van der Heeden (I) was a spices merchant, as was his son Anthony van der Heeden II of INVNO 255. Anthony van der Heeden, born in Leyden about 1588, came to Amsterdam as the knecht of David Dammen, whose widow he eventually married. On 26 January 1613, Antony van der Heeden, from Leyden, 24 years old, living op't Water, no living parents, assisted by Jan de [...], was betrothed to Hester Martens, widow of David van Dammen, assisted by her sister Susanna Martens (DTB 417/23). Hester Martens was the daughter of the rich merchant Hans Martens (den Otter) (of R 28860 of Montias2) and of Maeyken Bachers. A portrait of Susanna Martens was recorded in the inventory of Aernout Hooftmans of INVNO 403 (R 10998). On 11 August 1613, Anthony van der Heeden and Hester Martens had their daughter Maria baptized in the N.K. (DTB 39/325). On 10 September 1615, they had their daughter Catarijna baptized in the O.K. in the presence of Stephanus Bacherus (who married Maeyken Martens, another daughter of Hans Martens, of R 28860) (DTB 5/155). Catarijna married the notary Joost van der Ven on 24 March 1637. On 24 August 1618, Anthoni van der Hede, merchant and cruidenier, widower of Hester Martens, living op 't Water, was betrothed to Margariet van Haelewijn, 27, no living parents, also living op 't Water (DTB 422/382). On 26 January 1620, the new couple had their son Antony (van der Heeden II of INVNO 255) in the O.K in the presence of Marija van Haelewijn and Klara van der Heede (DTB 5/307). Their daughter Margriet was baptized on 31 August 1621. She married the notary Jacob Bruyingh, son of notary Jan Fransz. Bruyningh, on 22 June 1649 (N. Plomp in Jaarboek C.B.G. 39(1985), p.91). On 6 November 1622, their son Pieter was baptized. He became a merchant in paints (1652) (ibid.) On 6 January 1626, they had their son Matheus baptized in the N.K. in the presence of Gommer Spranger (of INVNO 305 and R 31375). Their son Hendrick was baptized on 21 January 1624 and their son Jacob, on 21 January 1635 (Plomp, ibid.) On 16 January 1629, Anthony van der Heede, as guardian of Anna Maria and Catlijn, daughters of the late Pieter Isaacksz., painter, brought various assets on behalf of the children (WK 5073/789, also the NOTES to R 23394 of Montias2). In 1631, Anthony van Heden, living on the N.Z. Westervoorburchwal, paid a tax of 15 f. (Kohier, fol. 287vo, p. 86). It was probably Anthony van der Heeden I who sold Anthony Pinel (of INVNO 218) a house on the West side of the Heeregracht, next to Abraham Anthonisz. (of R 20033) on 27 September 1638 (NA 696A, film 4982). Anthony van der Heeden I was the uncle of Marten and Matheus van Halewijn, who were closely related to Margariet van Halewijn (DTB 40/328). On 13 August 1654, Julien Samson and Herman Auxbrebis signed the accord of creditors of Anthony van der Heeden (probably I), insolvent (DBK 5072/873). For the post-mortem inventory of their son Anthony van der Heeden II, dated 8 July 1660, see INVNO 255.
