CommentaryOn 26 August 1633, the honorable Gabriel Yppelaer, 28, and Abraham van Laton, 41, declared at the request of Bunger Jeuriaensz., that the requirant (Jeuriaensz.) had bought from the honorable Jasper Jansz. Yppelaer (Gabriel's brother) 15 barrels of eastern fat, which had been slaughtered by his (Gabriel's) brother Tobias Yppelaer, residing in Oostlandt (NA 694B, film 4980, Not. J. Warnaerts). On 11 August 1635, Gabriel Jansz. Ypelaer, married Elisabeth Ariens, widow of Adriaen van der Linde (De Navorscher 32(1882), p. 63). Gabriel Jansz. was the brother of the merchants David Jansz. Ypelaer (cited in the INTRO and in the TEXT of R 83 of Montias1), of Jasper Jansz. and Tobias Ypelaer cited above, as well as of Paul Jansz. IJpelaer, who was married to Magdalena Jans, the daughter of Balthasar Jansz. of INVNO 1241 (For Magdalena's death inventory, see NA 413, film 1381, 30 May 1642). On David Jansz., see also a deposition dated 15 January 1636 (NA 695A, film 4981). Jasper Jansz. van Ipeler, living near the Singel. paid a tax of 300 f. in 1631 (Kohier, fol. 9, p. 3). On 19 March 1635, he passed a contract with Marten Nuyts and Daniel de Cressij, silverchain maker, according to the terms of which De Cressij bound himself to IJpelaer for one year to work in his garden and house outside the St. Anthonijspoort to trecken silverdraet (NA 695A, omslag 65, fol.40, Not. J. Warnaerts). Jasper was the father of Maria Jaspers IJpelaer who married Caspar Ruts (1597-1653), the son of Nicolaes Ruts I of INVNO 468. On 23 October 1636, Gabriel Jpelaer, merchant, 27 years old (clearly an underestimate), made a deposition (NA 695B, Not. J. Warnaerts). On 22 May 1640, Gabriel IJpelaer, merchant, made a deposition concerning lands that had been farmed out (NA 1601, fol. 45, Not. W. Hasen). Among the books in Gabriel IJpelaer's inventory: Bijbel bij Bruyn Hermansz. Schinckel, works of Wilhelm Perkins, Psalmboeck. Note that the inventory contains no precise date. It also mentions silverware in the INTRO, but no such silver appears in the inventory. It has been dated by reference to the dates of inventories that precede and follow it.
