Commentary | Garbrant Claesz. van Hoorn, born in 1571, married Trijn Pietersdr. Nachtglas on 9 April 1602. He was a wine merchant, in partnership with his brother Jan Claesz. van Hoorn (1565-1622), who was also a dealer in tar (teerkoper) (Elias, Vroedschap, pp. 448 and 550). He probably died shortly before 15 January 1624 when the masters of the Orphan Chamber named Pieter van Hoorn in place of the late Garbrant Claesz. as guardian over Tymon Braemsz., the innocent son of Jan Braems. The co-guardian was Vockert Vlamingh (WK 5073/513, fol. 19vo). The heirs of Gerbrant Claesz., living next door to or in the same house of, the widow of Jan Claesz. van Hoorn, paid a tax of 100 f. in 1631, at which time they lived in the Teertuijnen (Kohier, fol. 112, p. 27). On the guardians of the children of Garbrant Claesz., see the NOTES to R 32330 of Montias2. It was probably his son, named Pieter Garbrandsz. van Hoorn, who married Elisabeth Wandelman on 27 June 1631 (see the NOTES to R 30408 of Montias2). Pieter Garbrantsz. died on 14 April 1632, and his death inventory was taken in 1637 (NA 643, film 4954, fol. 171). His widow Elisabeth Wandelmans was betrothed to the notary and future attorney Pieter Barckman on 19 April 1634 (DTB 673/93). The records of the Orphan Chamber sale of Garbrant Claesz. van Hooren to which the INTRO alludes seem to have been lost. | |
