Commentary | Note: Only the most important paintings, from Marten de Vos to Michiel Miereveld, were estimated by De la Tombe and Keyser. The religion of the collector has been inferred from the presence of a crucifix in de bedstede in the binne camer. Coen Cornelisz., cited in the INTRO, was the son of Cornelis Coenen. Cornelis Coenen and Grietge Francken of the present inventory cannot be identical with Cornelis Coenen and Griete Pieters cited in the NOTES of R 31019, since at least the latter had died by 1620, unless of course Cornelis Coenen, cited in this WK act, later remarried. Note that some of the children of Cornelis Coenen called themselves Fuijck and that there were several portraits in the inventory of Olphaert (or Wolpher) Fuijck (e.g. R 7293 of Montias2). Jan Deyman, cited in the INTRO, was the famous professor of anatomy (INVNO 452), painted by Rembrandt. Salomon de la Tombe (of R 30861 of Montias2) and Thomas de Keyser (of R 24468 of Montias2), who appraised the paintings in the present inventory, were related. Salomon was married to Lysbet de Keyser, the sister of the architect and sculptor Hendrick de Keyser, who in turn was Thomas de Keyser's uncle. | |
