CommentaryHerman Outhuys, goldchain maker (goudtrecker), took an apprentice named Abraham Brinckhoff on 8 October 1631. On 4 November he took on another apprentice named Gillis Goosen. Five other apprenticeship contracts are cited in Van Dillen (Bronnen tot de geschiedenis van het bedrijfsleven R.G.P. 78(1933), pp.776, 804-5, 819, 823, and 144(1974), pp. 34, 36, and 37). On 21 October 1634, Harmen (Simonsz.) Outhuijs and Jan du Daseijn (?) named Jacob du Vermi (?) as co-creditor of Robbert Bede to collect money due to them (NA 843, fol. 730). On 3 June 1636, Harmen Outhuijs, 43, and the silversmiths Johannes Lutma and Abraham van der Hoeve confirmed the testament of Augustijn Pars (for details see the NOTES to R 20476 of Montias2). He is not identical with Harmen Dircx Outhuijs who had apparently died by 1632 when guardians were appointed for his estate (R 23767 of Montias2). He may have been the grandson of Harmen Dirckx. Sebastian Schellekens, who was one of the two executors of Herman Outhuys's testament, was the brother-in-law of Elias Tael of INVNO 127. Jan Barij, the other executor, may be identical with Jan de Bary, the son of Pieter de Bary and of Sara de Marees, cited in the TEXT of R 216.
