Commentary | On 20 October 1634, Pieter Gillekercken, 42 (perhaps identical with the buyer of R 30815 of Montias2), Antoni Post, procureur, 24, Hendrick Pouels [...], 40, and Jacob Ernst van Meerwijck, 30, declared at the request of Arnout van Liebergen de jonge (the son of Arnout van Liebergen I of R 20681 of Montias2) that Sr. Hendrick Hamel and Abraham Anthonisz. (of R 20033 of Montias2) were people of good reputation and credit and that Abraham Anthonisz. owned several houses in Amsterdam (NA 843, fol. 734, Not. Hoogeboom). On 14 September 1641, Jacob Eernst, from Amsterdam, huystimmermansgesel, 38, no living parents, living on the Haarlemmerstraet, was betrothed to Trijntje Cretser, from Amsterdam, widow of Jelis Jansz., living in the Barndesteech. She was illiterate (DTB 456/266). On 7 May 1650, a list of debts owed to the estate of Trijntge Cretser, wife of Jacob van Meer, was recorded. Among the good debts: Paulus Henneke(n) (painter), f. 24:17:--; Bartholomeus van der Helst, f. 150:--:--; Marten Kretser f. 180:--:--; among the bad debts: (Jan) Tengnagel, f. 55:--:-- (NA 2123, film 2251, fol. 910). From these debts, which were probably for frames, it may be inferred that Jacob Ernst was probably a framemaker. On 26 June 1650, Jacob Eernst, widower of Trijntge Cresser, was betrothed to Annetje van der Voort, widow of Jan Martensz. Brebis (DTB 467/674). Trijntje Kretser was the sister of Marten Kretser, who was one of the heirs of her estate. A later inventory of Trijntje Kretser (dated 2 March 1651) was taken on 2 March 1651, the contents of which were also assessed (NA 1921, fol. 238 and foll. The works of art in this inventory were almost identical to those in the present inventory. |
